The Pass Laboratories XP-12, XP-22 and XP-32 preamplifiers are the natural descendants to the long lived, highly acclaimed and successful X series of Pass Laboratories line-stages.

  • Dynamic Sound - The XP preamplifiers sound more dynamic, bass lines are more clearly, cleanly and accurately delineated.
  • Clear Bass Lines - Cleanly and accurately delineated
  • Fine Nuances and Detail - Instruments and voice are presented in a greatly refined spatial envelope and with better spectral balance.

XP-12

The new XP-12 starts with a new power supply. It uses an efficient toroidal design with both an electrostatic and Mu metal shield along with vacuum impregnating and epoxy fill. This gives you a very quiet transformer both electrically and mechanically.

The power supply circuitry itself is also lower noise and has additional filtering, a little more complicated but worth it. The XP-12 uses the single stage volume control borrowed from the Xs line preamp. This gives you one hundred 1 dB steps with lower noise and distortion while removing some signal path parts.

The gain circuitry continues to use our favourite transistors from Toshiba but has a larger higher biased output stage similar to the Xs preamplifier auto bias. This makes longer and multiple cable runs easier to drive and gives us the advantage of simplifying our single ended output circuitry while increasing performance. Overall this makes for a quieter more neutral, musical and versatile control center for your system..

XP-22

The new design uses double-shielded low noise toroidal transformers in an external supply connected via aviation-grade circular connectors using silver over oxygen-free copper. The power supply is dual mono with two transformers with lower radiated and mechanical noise. Noise is the most prominent part of THD+N at low levels, so by lowering noise we get better resolution and dynamics.

The gain circuitry continues to use our favourite transistors from Toshiba but has a larger, higher biased, output stage like the Xs Preamp, and includes auto bias.

The larger output stage makes longer, and multiple cable runs easier to drive and gives us the advantage of simplifying our single-ended output circuitry while increasing performance.

The volume control is a single stage instead of two stages and has more range; it is quieter and more accurate. This is the same volume control as used in the XP-30.

Overall this makes for a quieter, more neutral, musical, and versatile control center for your system.

The XP-22 measures spectacularly well — but it really stands out sonically.

XP-32

The XP-32 is a three-piece modular preamplifier consisting of one control/power supply chassis and two additional gain chassis each containing analog signals of a single channel. The XP-32 generates less noise, crosstalk and distortion while delivering greater dynamic range, gain, output voltage and output current. But it is the sound, not the technical excellence, that truly makes this a breakthrough instrument.

The new design uses double shielded low noise toroids in a true dual mono topology for the gain channels and another transformer, linear power supply dedicated to the control architecture. The use of three fully independent power-supplies in the control chassis results in dramatically lower radiated noise and far better THD+Noise figures in the gain stages.

Residual circuit noise becomes paramount at low signal levels. By going to extreme lengths to lower noise you enjoy better resolution and dynamics in the music. In the two gain chassis we continue to use our favourite NOS Toshibas but with larger and higher biased output stages in a topology very similar to that used in the Pass Labs “Flagship” Xs Preamp.

The larger output stages bring practicality to much longer and multiple cable runs, both balanced and single ended and gives us the advantage of simplifying our single ended output circuitry while simultaneously increasing performance. The volume control is a single stage topology, it features greater range, 0.5dB volume steps while being quieter and more dynamic.

Overall this makes for a quieter and more versatile control center for your music system. The XP-32 measures spectacularly well but more importantly it stands out sonically.
